That Really Bites!!!

Well, this is not the post I had expected or hoped to have you read. So far I am ok, just in some pain, so not to worry, yet. I was helping someone get into their site and while doing that, the dog in the site behind me bit me last night (Saturday). The dog was on a leash and the leash was being held. There was no indication of any problem until it was done. The owners of the dog said that it is really protective of the one that was holding the leash. I, of course, finished my job with the one person and then went to talk to the owners of the dog. They are from Colorado. They gave me an alcohol wipe and some cream and I put on a glove. This happened about 8:30 pm. I then went up to the office and they called Doug-the owner of the resort, and also doctored my wound. He came back and wanted me to go the the Hospital and have it cleaned and get a tetanus shot. And he told me to take his car and go. So off to the H. They forced some kind of solution into the puncture to flush it out-that didn't feel very good. Then I got a call from the police. In South Dakota, all dog bites must be reported to animal control. I told them what happened and what site the dog was in and he said that he would go and tell them their options-not sure what that is, but Doug said usually quarantine for some days. Now here is the "yet"--they said the dog had a rabies shot, but did not have tags or paperwork. They said they would call their vet and have it faxed here. So, hopefully that gets done. When I got back from a rainy with hail ride with April's brother and his wife, they were gone. They reserved until Friday-so I will find out what happened tomorrow--and hopefully get a fax from the vet. I know the police talked to them and Doug had a note on the door to come to the office when they returned-they were gone when someone went to their trailer. I have a souvenir from the hospital (wrist band) and get to take some pills every 6 hours for a week, I have some pain pills, and I get to clean it 3 times a day too for now. I also got a tetanus shot and a shot of antibiotics that hurt bad-I had to lay down as I was getting all kinds of white. This morning, the arm that the antibiotics went into hurt almost to my wrist-and this is on the arm that did not get bit! I am somewhat limited in what I can do as now both arms/hand hurts. So sorry about no photos this posting. We did not take the camera as the weather was rainy, but we should have as we had to move along with a HUGE Buffalo herd-probably close to 300 of them surrounding us, crossing in front and behind us and alot of other cars. One even licked the car! Believe me and April, and her brother and his wife--they were way to close!! We also had to stop earlier under a tree to help protect us from the pea sized hail or larger! It covered the ground. So I am sure that they will remember that day in August when it hailed at the black hills and we became a part of the buffalo herd for a long time to come-even without pictures. April is really hard on me about taking the pills and soaking my hand, but that is probably ok, I guess. They are calling for rain for parts of the next few days, so I hope we can do something else and get some pictures too. Take care! And hopefully the next post will be much better.

  1. It sounds like it is more dangerous there than it is here in Mexico. You may be having an alergic reaction to the medicine or antibiotics.
